About RulesofCivilProcedure.com
Last updated: June 26, 2026
RulesofCivilProcedure.com is a free, comprehensive reference for the rules that govern civil litigation in the United States. Our goal is simple: make the rules of civil procedure for every state — and the federal courts — easy to find, easy to read, and easy to understand.
What you will find here
We are building a dedicated page for each rule. Every rule page is designed to include:
- the full, verbatim text of the rule as published by the official source;
- a concise, plain-English summary written in our own words;
- frequently asked questions that address how the rule works in practice;
- amendment history and the date the rule was last amended and last verified; and
- a direct link to the official source so you can always confirm the text yourself.
Where our text comes from
The rule text on this site is reproduced from official public sources — state law libraries, state supreme courts, legislatures, and the federal courts. We track the last-amended and last-verified dates for each rule so you know how current the material is. When a rule changes, the official source always controls.
Our editorial approach
Our summaries and explanations are original, written in plain language to help readers orient themselves quickly. They are meant to complement — never replace — the actual text of the rule. We do not reproduce commentary from treatises or other copyrighted secondary sources.
Who this is for
Self-represented litigants, paralegals, law students, journalists, and attorneys looking for a fast, reliable starting point. Whoever you are, please remember that this site provides legal information, not legal advice — see our Disclaimer.
Project status
This site is actively under construction. We are adding jurisdictions and rule pages on a rolling basis, beginning with Montana. Check back as more states come online.
