Plain-English Summary

This rule prints the notice to produce, the companion to the notice to attend. Captioned in the action and addressed to the party, it directs the party to produce specified documents or things at a stated proceeding.

Where the notice to attend secures a party’s presence, the notice to produce secures the documents, and a party may be asked for one or both. Supplying a standard form keeps the demand precise about what must be brought and when, so the receiving party knows exactly what is required.
